Travelers Championship (June 24-27): Defending champion DJ eyes repeat as loaded field carries lots of betting value

After the U.S Open last week we have the Travelers Championship, which is once again being played at TPC River Highlands. This course is traditionally a low-scoring one and back In 2016, Jim Furyk posted a PGA Tour record score of 58 during the final round.

Last year's winner, Dustin Johnson, is definitely one of the favorites this weekend. He finished the event at an impressive -19 and whoever wins this week is probably going to have to post a similar score. DJ is joined by four other players in the top-10 of the world rankings competing. The others are Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed. So yes we could have more drama from Brooks and Bryson. In this week after the US Open, you are going to need a really good game to collect the purse.

Jon Rahm, the US Open winner, is not in the deep field this week. Let’s take a look at Travelers Championship odds and best bets.

Some Travelers Championship Bets to Consider:

Dustin Johnson +1200
If you are looking at the top odds guys (odds under +2000) then Johnson looks like the best bet. His form last week was pretty good, and he won the Travelers Championship last year. He definitely looks like a better play than DeChambeau, who imploded late last week. He is really never a bad bet.

Paul Casey +1500
Casey is one of those that has had a lot of success on the course, which is often as positive an indicator as recent form. The question is how much stock you put into the 2020 event. Last year he was not great in this event (36th) but prior to that, he had four top-five finishes in just six starts.

Kevin Streelman +2800
He finished second at last year’s Travelers Championship so he has a good history on the course. As a result he may not be priced as well he should be. His recent form is good too with four straight starts in the top 20.

Garrick Higgo +7000
Higgo didn’t make the cut last week at the US Open and normally that would be a sign of bad form. In his case, you don’t want to forget that he won just a couple of weeks ago at the Palmetto Championship. Also, this course looks like it suits him better than Torrey Pines.

Bubba Watson +7700
Bubba Watson loves this course and has won the Travelers Championship three times before (2010, 2015, 2018). At that price you are getting amazing value considering the history. Of course, it is because the recent form is not as exciting as it once was. He is definitely worth including in your stack.
