The first two events of the FedEx Cup Playoffs are in the books and the winner of the first two events is Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau is playing the best golf of his career right now and is building a significant lead over the 2nd placed golfer, Dustin Johnson.
Bryson DeChambeau started out the FedEx Cup, prior to the Northern Trust, in 9th place but won the Northern Trust Open at Ridgewood Golf Club and catapulted him into 1st place overall. DeChambeau cashed at 80/1 as a significant long shot in Vegas and also was one of the more valued golfers in Daily Fantasy Sports, with a price of $9900 on FanDuel and $7400 on Draftkings.
DeChambeau followed that up this week with yet another win at the Dell Technologies Championship at 33/1. The online sports betting oddsmakers and the Vegas oddsmakers drastically underestimated DeChambeau’s ability to win back-to-back tournaments, setting him as the 14th ranked golfer in reference to odds.
DeChambeau will most certainly not get you a return on the odds again this upcoming week at the BMW Championship, that you got on him at the Northern Trust Open and at the Dell Technologies Championship.
After missing the cut last week, Justin Rose bounce back nicely this week at the Dell Technologies Championship, finishing in 2nd place overall. Rose shot a -14 under par over the 4 days of golf, shooting a 65, 67, 70 and 68 in the 4 days.
Cameron Smith finished in 3rd place this week at the Dell Technologies Championship, making him one of the biggest movers in the standings, moving him from 16th place last week to 8th place this week.
One of the most shocking results from this past weekend was Jason Day, who was previously ranked 8th in the FedEx Cup Standings, missed the cut, shooting a +7 over par and finishing 5th worst in the tournament, among those that actually played. Day didn’t start well and finished even worst, as he just could never get his game going on Friday or Saturday.
Billy Horschel was hoping to move up in the rankings this week but unfortunately, he was battling an illness that sidelined him midway through the first round of golf. Horschel was battling a sinus infection and it truly affected his play, causing him to withdraw from the tournament. Horschel was in 14th place last week and moved down just 1 spot to the 15th spot in the FedEx Cup Playoff rankings.
Pat Perez also was forced to pull out last minute of the Dell Technologies but not due to an illness. Perez’s wife went into labor and he withdrew for the birth of his child. Perez subsequently ended up moving down 7 spots from 27th to 34th, which still puts him in next week at the BMW Championship.
Ryan Palmer was one of the golfers that was hit the hardest by the weak play, missing the cut this week and subsequently forcing him from 60th place into 71st place. Due to the fact that he fell under the top 70, Palmer is now eliminated from the playoff contention.
Kevin Streelman has also been eliminated from the FedEx Cup Playoffs this week, moving down 7 spots from 70th to 77th and much like Palmer, ending his 2018 PGA Season. Some of the other golfers that were eliminated this week were Whee Kim, Stewart Cink, Nick Watney, Jimmy Walker, Matt Kuchar, Bronson Burgoon, Charley Hoffman, Joel Dahmen, Michael Kim, JB Holmes, Kevin Chappell, James Hahn, Jamie Lovemark, Brian Stuard, Kevin Tway, Branden Grace, Russell Knox, Kelly Kraft, Troy Merritt, Tom Hoge, Scott Stallings, Satoshi Kodaira, Jhonattan Vegas, Russell Henley, Danny Lee, Ollie Schniederjans, Anirban Lahiri and Jason Dufner.
