Best Bets for the 2022 Honda Classic

Sungjae Im +1200

At +1200 odds, bettors can get some great value by taking the 2022 Honda Classic favorite, Sungjae Im. The 23-year-old is no stranger to the Champion Course, having won the tournament in 2020.

While he didn’t win it last year, Im did place eighth, showing that he tends to step it up whenever he’s in Palm Beach Gardens. He’s already placed inside of the top 10 in four of his nine outings this season, so look for another strong performance by Im this week.

Daniel Berger +1600

Another competitor with promising odds to win the Honda Classic is none other than Daniel Berger. He’s competed at the event six times in the past, most recently placing fourth in 2020 when he shot 3-under-par.

Berger also had a second-place finish in 2015, which proves that he knows what it takes to go all the way.

Unfortunately, Berger’s 2022 campaign has fluctuated. After placing seventh or better in two of his first three official events, he failed to make the cut at the WM Phoenix Open two weeks ago. Still, his past Honda Classic history is enough to give him a legitimate shot of winning this week.

Keith Mitchell +3300

Even though Keith Mitchell may not be the biggest name at the Honda Classic, he has a great chance to pull off a dark horse upset. The 30-year-old Chattanooga, Tennessee native went all the way in 2019 and won the entire tournament.

While he hasn’t come close to winning in Palm Beach Gardens since then, Mitchell has been enjoying moderate success on the 2022 PGA TOUR. He’s placed 12th or better in four of his last five outings and has made the cut 70% this season.

Adding that to the fact that he’s a former tournament winner, bettors could make a decent amount of cash if Mitchell can pull off the upset.

Sungjae Im Top 5 +250

Even though Im is the odds-on favorite to win the Honda Classic, nothing is a guarantee in professional sports or betting. That’s why bettors might be wise to take him at +250 for a top-5 performance.

Yes, the payout won’t nearly be as high, but Im’s recent play and tournament history suggest that he’s in line for another solid performance — even if he doesn’t win the whole thing.

Matt Jones Top 5 +900

Out of all of this year’s Honda Classic competitors, Matt Jones has more experience than most. The 41-year-old has entered the tournament eight times over his 21-year career, capturing the 2021 title when he beat out Brandon Hagy by five strokes for the victory.

While lightning doesn’t usually strike twice and back-to-back victories aren’t a guarantee, taking Jones for a top-5 finish at +900 has too much value to turn down. He’s been inconsistent this season, but he did place third at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last month.

Assuming he brings a similar level of performance to the Champion Course this week, Jones could be among the top of the field when all is said and done.

Mackenzie Hughes Top 10 +450

Even though Mackenzie Hughes has yet to win the Honda Classic, he did place second at the event just two years ago. He’s also seen two top-5 finishes this season, proving that he’s ready to bounce back from his disappointing play to close out 2021.

Bettors can take Hughes at +450 to finish inside of the top 10, which seems like a pretty safe bet with some solid value. He may not finish second again, but a weaker-than-usual field opens up the door for a top-10 performance.
