WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Betting Preview (August 5-8): Strong Field Presents Many Betting Options

WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Betting Preview (August 5-8): Strong Field Presents Many Betting Options

The PGA Tour took a little break to accommodate the Olympics last week but now they are back to regularly scheduled programming this weekend with the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

This is a packed field with 48 of the top 50 players in attendance. One notable absence is world number one, U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm . This course has been on the PGA Tour for decades but only became a WGC event a few years back, hence the very strong field.

It might not help you pick a winner, but this event has put together some amazing pairings to increase the early entertainment value. Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy will tee off together, as will Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith.

The past two winners, since the event became a WGC event, were Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas.

WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Best Bets

Dustin Johnson to Win the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational +1800

Johnson, the second-ranked golfer in the world rankings, is never a bad bet. He performs well in WGC events too, with five wins and two runners-up in his career. Those odds are better than normal thanks to the stacked field.

Daniel Berger +2000

He has played well at this course in the past, winning events in both 2016 and 2017 before it was a WGC event. He has also been a runner-up. If you like course advantages he is someone you definitely have to think will be in the mix.

Another great bet with Berger is to pick him to finish in the top ten. You can get +160 on that.

Patrick Cantlay +2500

He does not have the track record of Berger on this course but it looks like it would suit him well. At those odds, he is definitely worth a look too.

Scottie Scheffler +2800

He is another player who has done well in WGC events. He is getting progressively better since turning pro, with a 15th place finish last season and a top 5 at Concession earlier this year. This season, he has three top-8s in Majors so he knows how to compete when there is a good field.

Louis Oosthuizen +160 (Top Ten)

He is a pretty good bet to win the the event and I was pleasantly surprised to see him at these odds. He is rested, having a given a pass to the Olympics. Maybe take him to win it too. He has been playing well lately.
