Aqueduct Sunday 12/19: Gravesend and Queens County Analysis

After Sunday's card Aqueduct will break for the holiday season before returning in January.

Sunday marks the last day of racing at Aqueduct before the holiday hiatus. The 9 race card will feature the Gravesend and Queens County Stakes.

Playing “The Big A”

One thing has become very prevalent since turf racing concluded a few weeks back in New York. If you want to win races, being forwardly placed is a huge advantage. Horses toward the front are finishing extremely well.

It would also seem that most of the time the rail in the stretch is not where you want to be. Horses are running ok up the inside on the backstretch, but the most impressive performances have come from horses who tip out into the middle of the stretch turning for home.

Aqueduct Race 9

Post: 4:04 PM ET; Purse: $43,000 Maiden Claiming, 1 Mile on Dirt; Entries: 13

#2 VIKING ZIM (6-1) is named after Mike Zimmer, head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. As a die hard Minnesota Vikings fan I fully expect this one to nurse a small lead throughout the race before making a series of gaffs 20 yards before the finish leading to a heartbreaking loss. Connections to my favorite football team aside, I like this one to outlast the others and spring the minor upset.

#13 GOT THE GOLD (5-1) looks to have the top speed ratings in the group and has run against solid company, but the post is not ideal. #10 RUSH TO HONOR (4-1) has to be respected based on the connections. #5 SANDRO THE GREAT (8-1) is well bred for the distance.

Selections: 2-13-10-5
