Feature Analysis

Gulfstream Park Race 11- Gulfstream Park Sprint

Post: 5:10 PM ET; Purse: $150,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint S., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

Drain the Clock is favored in the Gulfstream Park Sprint
Drain the Clock wins the Woody Stephens
  • #6 DRAIN THE CLOCK (8-5) is one of my favorite types of horses. This one has the class to win here, but his run style is to go fast from start to finish and it leads to some impressive performances.
  • #4 MILES AHEAD (7-2) comes into the race in top form though it will take a career best to get by the favorite.
  • #1 GATSBY (4-1) is among the top speed figure earners in the field and will likely compete for a spot in the number.
  • #2 FRANCATELLI (12-1) is an interesting long shot to round out the vertical exotics.

Selections: 6-4-1-2 (Best Bet: #6 DRAIN THE CLOCK)

Saturday Undercard Analysis

Gulfstream Park Race 1

Post: 12:00 PM ET; Purse: $35,000 Maiden Claiming, 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 10

  • #4 BLUTO'S CANDY (7-2) is bred well enough to be a major player here.
  • #5 JARDANI (5-2) has run against the toughest up to this point and makes sense in this race.
  • #3 DANIEL SUN (3-1) has the best speed figures in the group up to this point.
  • #2 GRAY WARRIOR (8-1) could be ready to spring an upset in this field.

Selections: 4-5-3-2

Gulfstream Park Race 2

Post: 12:29 PM ET; Purse: $22,000 Claiming, 7 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

  • #4 PRETTY RACHEL (7-5) is dominant on paper in this spot. This one looks tough to get around.
  • #6 CHEZ PAREE (9-2) drops into this group and could compete in this spot.
  • #1 RAIN (5-2) is another who matches up well with the runners in this group.
  • #3 BEAUTY QUEEN (5-1) goes out for a barn that has to be respected in this spot.

Selections: 4-6-1-3

Gulfstream Park Race 3

Post: 12:58 PM ET; Purse: $23,000 Maiden Claiming, 6 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 8

  • #6 POSEIDON'S SON (4-1) should be on the engine early and it may be tough for others to get by late.
  • #3 STARTING UP (3-1) has been close at this level before. Maybe today will be the day this one can break through.
  • #4 PORK CHOP (6-1) should be forward early and may even get the coveted rail position.
  • #8 SHEA D CAPTURE (5-2) has come close at this level and wouldn’t take much improvement to break the maiden here.

Selections: 6-3-4-8

Gulfstream Park Race 4

Post: 1:27 PM ET; Purse: $19,000 Claiming, 6 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 7

  • #3 SHEZA SAVAGE (2-1) drops in class here and should find this group much to her liking.
  • #1 SNACKSTER (7-2) should be forward early and has recorded the top speed numbers of the group.
  • #7 ELLIEREESEASTON (4-1) should be able to carry her run over the 6 1/2 furlong distance.
  • #2 YEGUITA QUEEN (5-2) is coming in hot for a really quality group of connections.

Selections: 3-1-7-2

Gulfstream Park Race 5

Post: 1:57 PM ET; Purse: $24,000 Claiming, About 1 1/16 Miles on All Weather Track; Entries: 8

  • #1 PERFECT KIMBERLY S (4-1) has posted the best synthetic speed figures to this point.
  • #7 SYLVANELLA (7-2) is backed by connections that know how to get the job done on this surface.
  • #3 UPTOWN QUEEN (8-1) is an interesting longshot player to dink up into the number.
  • #8 VICTORY CRUSADE (8-1) has run against better and should be forward although that isn’t always an advantage on the fair tapeta surface.

Selections: 1-7-3-8

Gulfstream Park Race 6

Post: 2:27 PM ET; Purse: $60,000 Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs on Turf; Entries: 13

  • #13 PHILIPSBURG (3-1) has great bloodlines for this spot. My only concern is the post. In such a short race this one will have to be so much better than the rest to overcome the ground loss.
  • #6 SOSUA SUMMER (6-1) has the top speed figures in the group on the turf and should be ready to fire.
  • #7 CAPTURE THE TIME (15-1) will likely be sent hard to get the lead. If this one can get loose and find the rail it may be tough to reel back in.
  • #9 MAYA PRINCE (4-1) has the top in the money percentage of anyone in this field and is worth a look to at least round out the verticals.

Selections: 13-6-7-9

Gulfstream Park Race 7

Post: 3:01 PM ET; Purse: $34,000 Starter Optional Claiming, About 5 1/2 Furlongs on All Weather Track; Entries: 7

  • #7 SENOR JOBIM (7-2) goes out for a solid barn in what appears to be an extremely deep field.
  • #5 CUY (3-1) has the speed figures to win and classes up well with several others.
  • #2 LIKE A SALTSHAKER (9-2) is coming into the race in great form and could look to spring the minor upset.
  • #1 INDY LYON (4-1) may get a good pace scenario in this spot. The only concern might be the rail which is not always the best place to be on the synthetic course.

Selections: 7-5-2-1

Gulfstream Park Race 8

Post: 3:33 PM ET; Purse: $43,000 Maiden Optional Claiming, 7 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 11

  • #2 SMOKIN BOW (4-1) looks the best on speed figures among other handicapping factors. At 4-1 I like this one. Shorter than that and I will be looking for another to back.
  • #8 REDDINGTON (9-2) has run well enough in previous starts to suggest this one isn’t impossible.
  • #5 PACO'S PICO (5-1) has breeding that says the 7 furlongs should hit this runner between the eyes.
  • #9 CELESTIAL GLAZE (8-1) is the most appetizing price of the top 4 and goes out for solid connections in this spot.

Selections: 2-8-5-9

Gulfstream Park Race 9

Post: 4:05 PM ET; Purse: $61,000 Allowance Optional Claiming, 5 Furlongs on Turf; Entries: 8

  • #3 HIT THE WOAH (9-5) has been really impressive in the recent starts and should enjoy the group drawn in this spot.
  • #8 TREVESS (7-2) has the best energy distribution of any horse in the field which should allow this one to carry speed throughout the sprint.
  • #7 TRACY ANN'S LEGACY (3-1) will be forward which is paramount in these short turf races.
  • #6 ZIA'S SONG (6-1) looks well enough to hit the board in this spot. I’m not looking at this one as a legitimate win contender.

Selections: 3-8-7-6

Gulfstream Park Race 10

Post: 4:37 PM ET; Purse: $24,000 Claiming, About 1 1/16 Miles on All Weather Track; Entries: 9

  • #8 ROCKET JOE COPPER (3-1) has the best overall power rating in the group and comes into the race in really good form.
  • #1 DEVOTED KITTEN (5-1) has the stamina to appreciate the fair tapeta surface.
  • #2 DR. SHANE (6-1) has run against better. I’m not sure the class drop alone can get this one to the winner’s circle.
  • #3 FARLEY (6-1) If early speed is holding on the synthetic track, this one gets a major upgrade.

Selections: 8-1-2-3

Gulfstream Park Race 11-Gulfstream Park Sprint

Post: 5:10 PM ET; Purse: $150,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint S., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

  • Gulfstream Park Sprint analysis provided above.

Selections: 6-4-1-2

Gulfstream Park Race 12

Post: 5:43 PM ET; Purse: $35,000 Maiden Claiming, 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 11

  • #9 QUANTUM THEORY (2-1) should be the winner on paper. However, these are maiden claimers so have your back up tickets ready as anything can happen here.
  • #7 MALIBU TIME (10-1) has connections that can be relied for a high win percentage. At 10-1 well worth the risk to include this one.
  • #4 VERSATILE (6-1) should be able to hold on if others start falling apart. This one has a solid foundation and should be able to stay on late.
  • #5 TAPIT BRIO (6-1) has been running against better in previous efforts. Maybe a little relief allows this one to get home at a decent price.

Selections: 9-7-4-5
