Parx Monday: Stakes Trifecta Kicks Off Busy Week In Pennsylvania

Midweek is often a slow time for racing. This week however, “Parx Madness” means plenty of stakes action for horseplayers before weekend racing.

Parx Madness

The term “Parx Madness” was coined for racing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week in which the track will run 15 stakes. Unfortunately, the term may also serve as an unfortunate double entendre.

On Sunday, sources affiliated with the New York Racing Association announced they would not be accepting Parx shippers on the grounds. According to the Twitter account of Patrick McKenna, vice president of communications at NYRA, there are reports of a horse with a neurological issue at the Pennsylvania track.

The concern is that these issues are often caused by viruses that if not properly contained can do a lot of damage to any infected horses.

Parx Race Course Race 4

Post: 2:16 PM ET; Purse: $36,000 Starter Optional Claiming, 7 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 10

  • #1 FLIMFLAM MAN (4-1) is a major contender given the edge in a number of key categories including speed & class.
  • #8 CANT STOP THIS MAN (7-2) this seems like the other logical horse based on form and class. Outside of these two, there seems to be a drop off to the rest.
  • #7 RACK GIN (9-2) has run solid enough races recently to be in the mix to hit the board.
  • #5 PERFECT REVENGE (6-1) has run against some solid fields in recent starts.

Selections: 1-8-7-5 (Best Bet: #1 FLIMFLAM MAN)

  • #2 THE GREAT GAZOO (2-1) is in with a great chance based on the horse's class & breeding.
  • #1 LINDROS (4-1) comes into the race cycling up in form. Maybe this one is ready to break through.
  • #7 MY BROTHER NEIL (7-2) has run against some quality fields early in the career. Perhaps that has prepared this one to break the maiden in this spot.

Selections: 6-2-1-7

Parx Race Course Race 6

Post: 3:10 PM ET; Purse: $29,000 Claiming, 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 8

  • #4 JUDICIAL MANDATE (5-2) looks tough to beat here given the edge in a number of key categories including speed & class.
  • #8 ADMIRAL EASTWOOD (5-1) has solid connections and speed figures on par with these runners.
  • #6 AMERICAN QUALITY (6-1) is worth a look here given the record at the distance.
  • #1 LOXODROME (7-2) will likely have the stamina to outlast these in the final jumps of the race.

Selections: 4-8-6-1

Parx Race Course Race 7

Post: 3:37 PM ET; Purse: $36,000 Claiming, 1 Mile 70 Yards on Dirt; Entries: 13

  • #5 BELLA G (8-1) is in with a great chance based on the horse's connections & pace numbers.
  • #6 PENANCE (6-1) merits consideration in this spot given edges in stamina & record at the distance.
  • #3 FILLUPCOHENSAPIKER (6-1) is proven as a good bet to at least hit the board under today's distance and surface conditions.
  • #4 SUGAR STREAK (4-1) has the top overall power rating in the field.

Selections: 5-6-3-4

Parx Race Course Race 8

  • #9 BACKSIDEOFTHEMOON (3-1) is an interesting horse. At 10 years old, he was forced off the grounds in New York because he is too old to race. That beings said, the old pro is worth a look here given edges in class & form.
  • #3 SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (6-1) could get a decent pace setup in this race.
  • #8 DREAMS UNTOLD (6-1) has the top power rating in the group and wouldn’t be a total shock.
  • #7 BROOKLYN STRONG (4-1) has really good speed figures for this group. He is a former Derby trail horse that took some buzz in his three old season but has had too many stops and starts in his training to make him a top player.

Selections: 9-3-8-7

Parx Race Course Race 9

Post: 4:39 PM ET; Purse: $100,000 Penn's Landing S., 6 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 10

  • #2 HEY MAMALUKE (8-1) is a major player in today's race edging the field in several key handicapping factors including speed & pace numbers.
  • #4 JAKARTA (2-1) is worth a look here given edges in class & overall power rating.
  • #5 CINNABUNNY (5-1) classes up well enough to be a player in this group.
  • #3 GLORY DIA (8-1) has to be respected based on the connections.

Selections: 2-4-5-3

Parx Race Course Race 10

Post: 5:10 PM ET; Purse: $100,000 Fishtown S., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 11

  • #3 FORTHELUVOFBOURBON (6-1) is in solid form and should get a nice pace setup. I don’t like the favorite very much here so I’ll take a swing with a price.
  • #5 UNCLE ERNIE (9-2) has to be respected based on the connections.
  • #11 HOLLYWOOD JET (5-2) has the speed figures to earn favoritism here, but this is a stakes. In his last two races he won a maiden claimer and finished 2nd in a claiming race. That does scream stakes victory to me.
  • #2 SMOOTH B (8-1) looks to have to have kept the best company in the previous starts.

Selections: 3-5-11-2

Parx Race Course Race 11

Post: 5:37 PM ET; Purse: $26,000 Claiming, 6 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 14

  • #6 WHYISSHESOOLUCKY (4-1) has run against better and should get a nice trip in this race.
  • #4 MORISSETTE (7-2) really loves this extended sprint distance.
  • #9 JANELLE DREAMS (6-1) should be able to get the extra half furlong here which may be important on the tiring Parx surface.
  • #8 THATTA BOY GIRL (5-1) has the speed figures to be a major player in this one.

Selections: 6-4-9-8
