National League Baseball Betting: New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies

After a strong start to this season, the New York Mets have really seen their wheels come off. They are now eight games under .500, and no matter how good their starting pitching is on a given night, they find a way to lose.

The Colorado Rockies on the other hand have continued to score a ton of runs, but find themselves three games under .500, and losers of seven of their last 10. Tonight however, they are listed as -110 favorites to beat the Mets.

New York Mets (31-39)

The Mets offense has been flat out horrible this year, as they have a -36 run differential, and have not had any power in their lineup. On a team with Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes, Todd Frazier, and Adrian Gonzalez, it is Asdrubal Cabrera and Brandon Nimmo (12 apiece) that lead the team in home runs. They are batting just .229 as a team and this year is showing that Terry Collins was not the issue here. This is a far cry from the Mets team that won the National League in 2015.

Jacob DeGrom this year, has proven to be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He has posted an outstanding 1.51 ERA in 95 1/3 innings of work, along with 120 strikeouts. However, he has just five wins in 15 starts, showing the team cannot produce for him. This is a stat that defines the Mets season.

Usually a reliever, Seth Lugo will be taking the mound for his third start (25th appearance) of the season for the Mets tonight. In all, he’s gone 2-2, posting a 2.49 ERA over 50 2/3 innings, striking out 54, and walking just 10. He allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings in his last outing against the DBacks.

Colorado Rockies (35-38)

The Rockies have shown great power in 2018, launching 89 home runs thus far. However, they have been outscored by 52 runs this year, as their pitching has not been able to get it done. Nolan Arenado is in the midst of yet another MVP-caliber campaign, in which he has hit 14 HR’s, driven in 45 runs, and is batting .311. Charlie Blackmon, Ian Desmond, and Trevor Story have all been doing a tremendous job of hitting the long ball.

In addition to the 89 home runs they have hit, they have allowed 92, showing just how off their game the pitching has been. There is some trouble in Colorado.

The Rockies will send Chad Bettis to the mound for his fifteenth start of a season. A survivor of testicular cancer, Bettis had proven to a big winner on the mound for Colorado this year. To date, he has gone 5-1, posting a 4.65 ERA in 81 1/3 innings of work, and striking out 59, while walking 27. He is in a big slump though, as he has allowed exactly five runs in each of his last four outings. He has some work to do.

Rockies defeat the struggling Mets

There is no doubt about it, the Colorado Rockies, listed as -110 favorites, will get the job done tonight. Their offense, despite all of the piling losses, is still among the best in the major leagues.

With the likes of Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story in the lineup, Seth Lugo hardly stands a chance to have a big start. Colorado will be able to hit five home runs tonight, to help dominate a Mets team that just cannot catch a break. It’s been a tough start for manager Mickey Callaway.

For Colorado, this is a great confidence boost going forward, as they look to improve. When you bet on this game Wednesday night, take the offense of the Colorado Rockies to beat the Mets. Bet on the Colorado Rockies -110 over the New York Mets.
