Sunday Night Baseball: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees

The New York Mets and New York Yankees will wrap up their three game series on Sunday Night baseball from Citi Field. The Yankees have won the first two games of this series and will be looking for the series sweep on Sunday night. The Yankees defeated the Mets, 4-3 in game two of the series.

The Yankees are in a very tight race with the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East division. The Mets find themselves in fourth place in the NL East division, after getting off to a hot start to the 2018 season. The New York Yankees are -230 over the Mets in the series finale.

Severino Looks to Stay Hot

Yankees starter, Luis Severino, has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2018, and is a big reason for the Yankees success. Severino is 9-1 with a sparkling 2.20 this season and has quickly emerged as the ace of the Yankees starting rotation. Severino appears to be destined for the All-Star game in July.

Aaron Judge hit the eventual game winner on Saturday night, and has been carrying the Yankees offense all season long. Judge leads the team in both home runs (18) and runs batted in (45), and appears to be destined for a very successful career. Judge will look to stay hot on Sunday night to give Severino some run support.

Mets Offense Struggling to Score

The Mets got off to a terrific start to the 2018 season, but have fallen on tough times recently. Injuries have played a large part in their struggles, but the Mets offense can’t seem to find any consistency. The Mets rank just 28th in the MLB in runs scored, and have done little to help their dominant pitching staff.

Seth Lugo will come out of the bullpen to make the start in the series finale for the Mets. Lugo is 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA so far in 2018, but is more accustomed for a relieving role. Lugo will be faced with the extremely tough task of trying to shut down the potent Yankees’ lineup. The Mets are hoping that Lugo can give them a quality start before turning the game over to their bullpen.

Yankees Win Series Finale

The Yankees are clearly the better baseball team in 2018, but this series is always competitive no matter how the teams are playing. The teams don’t like each other, and their is a great rivalry between the fans of each team as well. The Yankees have gotten the better of the Mets so far this series, but the Mets are capable of bouncing back on Sunday evening.

This game will very likely come down to starting pitching, and Severino starting for the Yankees gives them a huge advantage. The young right hander has been dominant all season long, and should have little trouble with the depleted Mets’ lineup. Look for the Yankees’ bats to provide enough run support for Severino to pick up his 10th win of the season. Bet the New York Yankees -230 over the Mets on Sunday night baseball.
