Big 12 Championship Game Betting Preview & Best Bets: Can Baylor End Oklahoma State’s College Football Playoff Hopes?

Oklahoma State is looking to ride its Bedlam win into the College Football Playoff. With a win in the Big 12 Championship Game, they will be in if Alabama, Cincinnati, or Michigan lose.

For a while there, it looked like Baylor’s success this season might cost them coach Dave Aranda. But rumors have quieted lately though with the top vacancies all filled for the moment other than Oklahoma.

These programs met in October, with Oklahoma State taking a 24-14 win in Stillwater. This could be a competitive rematch, but it might depend on Baylor’s quarterback situation.

Baylor Bears vs Oklahoma State Cowboys Betting Preview

Were it not for a late-season loss to TCU, Baylor would also be in the CFP mix, but it has been an overall fantastic season for the Bears.

They do have a question mark for this game with QB Gerry Bohanon’s status uncertain due to a hamstring injury. He has been critical to their balanced offense all season long, and you don’t want to be shorthanded against a strong Oklahoma State defense. The 14 points that the Bears scored in their loss to the Cowboys was their lowest output of the season.

Baylor plays good defense too, holding teams to just under 20 points per game. The Bears are in the Big 12 title game by virtue of a head-to-head win over Oklahoma, in which that defense shut down the Sooners’ vaunted offense and made Caleb Williams look like a freshman.

The Cowboys started the season with tight wins over Missouri State and Tulsa that had many thinking this was going to be a forgettable season in Stillwater. But as the competition improved, the Cowboys got better. They have covered every number since, and their only loss was a three-point loss at Iowa State on October 23.

Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders directs a relatively mediocre offense, but the defense has been elite and is one of the best in college football. They are especially good at making adjustments at halftime to shut down opponents and give their offense a chance. Their CFP hopes are still alive because they did just that against Oklahoma last week, holding the Sooners to zero offensive points in the second half of their 37-33 win.

Baylor Bears vs Oklahoma State Cowboys Best Bet

Oklahoma State Cowboys -6.5

The Cowboys won and covered in the first matchup and that is what I expect again. It was actually a fairly dominant performance with Oklahoma State running for 219 yards to Baylor’s 107, even though the scoreboard did not reflect it. Oklahoma State will win again and will try and make a statement for the CFP committee to strongly consider them even if the right results don’t happen above them.
