Midweek MACtion Tuesday Preview: Will Ohio Score Third Straight Upset Win?

Midweek MACtion Tuesday Preview: Will Ohio Score Third Straight Upset Win?

We’re halfway through a four-week college football and NFL feast, and it is fair to say that it has been rather filling thus far, thanks in part to two exciting weeks of MACtion.

In the NFL, underdogs are making a lot of noise, which we will be covering in an upcoming piece here on Betting News. In the collegiate ranks, conference title races around the country are reaching the home stretch, and the top teams in the country are trying to avoid the carnage as they seek a place in the College Football Playoff or a New Year’s Six bowl.

What’s ahead for this week of college football? The new week gets underway tonight with another round of midweek MACtion.

Week 12 College Football Schedule & Top CFB Betting Matchups

Over the last two weeks, MACtion has lived up to its moniker and then some. Two weeks ago, there were a combined 396 points in the five midweek MAC games. Last week, there were a combined 417 points in the six midweek MAC games.

Last week also featured a last-second field goal to win the Bronze Stalk, as Northern Illinois edged Ball State to move one step closer to the MAC West Division title.

The last two weeks have set a pretty high bar for this week and next week to live up to. Let’s take a look at the three MACtion matchups on tonight’s slate.

All college football betting odds listed below are via FanDuel Sportsbook as of Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 6:45 p.m. ET.

MACtion Schedule for Tuesday, November 16

Toledo at Ohio, ESPN+, 7:00 p.m. ET

  • Spread: Toledo -7.5 (-114), Ohio +7.5 (-106)
  • Total: OVER 58.5 (-108), UNDER 58.5 (-112)
  • Moneyline: Toledo -325, Ohio +250

Ohio has pulled back-to-back ATS & SU upsets as an underdog. Two weeks ago, they downed Miami (Ohio) at home, and last week they took down Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti. Can they make it three straight tonight? Their three conference losses have been by a total of 11 points, so even if they don’t get the SU win, they should be in it all the way.

Toledo is coming off of a blowout road win over Bowling Green, but can they string two good performances together? They have found that hard to do this season, and three losses by a total of eight points have killed off their conference title hopes.

This spread is a little generous towards Toledo, but I’ll gladly take that generosity and also suggest a sprinkle on the Bobcats to win SU.

Toledo vs Ohio Best Bet: Ohio +7.5

Western Michigan at Eastern Michigan, ESPN2, 7:30 p.m. ET

  • Spread: Western Michigan -6.5 (-110), Eastern Michigan +6.5 (-110)
  • Total: OVER 65.5 (-114), UNDER 65.5 (-106)
  • Moneyline: Western Michigan -240, Eastern Michigan +190

Both of these teams have plenty to kick themselves over. The Eagles will be kicking themselves over home losses to Ball State and Ohio, while the Broncos didn’t keep things going after a 4-1 start that featured a win over ACC title favorite Pittsburgh.

Both teams are averaging over 30 points per game, and neither team is particularly adept at keeping the opposition off of the scoreboard. Western Michigan has allowed at least 31 points in each of their last five games, while Eastern Michigan has allowed an average of 36.3 points per game over their last four games.

Western Michigan vs Eastern Michigan Best Bet: OVER 65.5

Bowling Green at Miami (Ohio), ESPNU, 8:00 p.m. ET

  • Spread: Bowling Green +17.5 (-118), Miami (Ohio) -17.5 (-104)
  • Total: OVER 51.5 (-112), UNDER 51.5 (-108)
  • Moneyline: Bowling Green +610, Miami (Ohio) -1000

It may feel a little blasphemous for a midweek MACtion total to be this low. But these two teams both rank in the bottom half of the league in scoring, with Miami (26.8 points per game) coming in at eighth and Bowling Green 11th (22.4 points per game).

But I look at that as a good low-risk, high-reward opportunity. Bowling Green’s last five games have gone over this total, and they have allowed 55, 44, and 49 points in their last three games. Miami, meanwhile, is averaging 35.7 points per game at home in conference action.

Bowling Green vs Miami (Ohio) Best Bet: OVER 51.5
