Ole Miss Rebels vs Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview: Corral, Rebels Look to Back Up the Buzz and Top the Tide in Tuscaloosa

Last year, Ole Miss and Alabama played one of the most exciting games of the college football season. The Rebels gave the Crimson Tide a test that few other teams did, forcing the Tide to outscore them, which they eventually did in a 63-48 win.

This season both of these programs are undefeated, and the Rebels and star quarterback Matt Corral are receiving a lot of buzz.

Alabama will be looking to silence that buzz, and oddsmakers have made the Crimson Tide a significant favorite at home.

Ole Miss Rebels vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Outlook

The Rebels are all about offense and if you believe the hype they might have college football’s best quarterback in Matt Corral. There is no disputing the numbers he has put up this season nor that coach Lane Kiffin has made the Rebels a force to be reckoned with.

Currently, Ole Miss is first in the nation in yards and points per game and they are going to need that offense to give them a chance in this showdown. Nick Saban has yet to lose a game to a former assistant, but even though the Rebels are underdogs by more than two touchdowns most think they have a chance.

To keep it close the Rebels do have to be able to put up some form of defensive resistance. They are giving up just 20 points per game, but the level of competition has been light. Louisville is the best team they have played so far. Last year they gave up 63 points to Alabama, but that team was more experienced and talented than this version of the Tide. The more they score the less the defense has to do.

Just How Vulnerable Is Alabama?

It seems the pundits are putting a lot on that game a couple of weeks ago when Alabama nearly lost at Florida. It was one of the worst Alabama performances in recent memory, but they were never actually losing in the game.

What was concerning is the way that the Gators bottled up Alabama on the ground and that the Crimson Tide had 11 penalties in the game. The offense scored 63 points against Southern Miss last week, but it is not nearly as deadly as it was a year ago. How could it be with five starters from that group now starting on Sundays? They were on the road against Florida too. That is not the case this week.

The Alabama defense has not been destroying opponents either. Only the Florida game did not include significant garbage time though, so I think we have to give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of yards allowed. They seem vulnerable this week because the Rebels showed last season that they know how to move the ball against Alabama. You have to think Nick Saban and the coaching staff might have some new wrinkles but Ole Miss might have some also.

  • The Rebels are 5-0 ATS in their last five games as a road underdog.
  • Alabama is 5-1 ATS in their last six games in October.
  • The Crimson Tide are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.

Ole Miss Rebels vs Alabama Crimson Tide Best Bet

Ole Miss +14.5

Fading Alabama is generally not a good way to build your bankroll, but I think you can bet Ole Miss here and not be accused of falling victim to the hype. The fact is that the Rebels are an elite offensive team, and if you are going to stun the Crimson Tide that is the way you do it. Corral may have to have the game of his life, but if he does the Rebels have enough talent on offense and defense to both keep it close and maybe even win.
