The surprise of the SEC this year is the Kentucky Wildcats. They sit at 7-1 and are in a tie for first place in the SEC East. They will meet the team they are tied with on Saturday as the 7-1 Georgia Bulldogs come to town. This is a battle for a spot in the SEC Championship as the winner shouldn’t end up losing two more games since they both have pretty easy schedules after they get past this game.
Georgia is coming off of a big win against Florida 36-17 and Kentucky escaped a game against Missouri as they threw the game-winning touchdown with no time remaining on the clock to win by one point. This is going to be a great game that will most likely come down to the final quarter. Both of these teams will come in amped up and ready to play. Georgia is favored by 9.5 points in this one.
Wildcats Having Huge Surprise Season
Kentucky is a team whose offense isn’t the greatest, but they don’t have to score that much because their defense is so solid. This year the Kentucky defense has only allowed 13.0 points a game and 295.3 yards a game. They are spectacular in defending the run as they only have given up 108.5 yards a game on the ground. Conversely, the Wildcats score 25.6 points a game and have a very good running attack themselves. They only gain 362.1 yards a game but 214.0 of that comes on the ground.
Their passing attack isn’t very good as they only gain 148.1 yards a game through the air. Benny Snell Jr. has been stellar on the ground for the Wildcats as he has rushed for 935 yards and nine touchdowns so far on the year. Terry Wilson has thrown for 988 yards, but has thrown six interceptions against five touchdown passes. The lone loss for the Wildcats was a game on October 6th when they fell on the road to Texas A&M 20-14 in overtime.
Georgia Looking to Get Back in the Mix
Georgia has moved the ball really well this year, gaining 457.8 yards a game and scoring 38.6 points per game. The Bulldogs are very balanced moving the ball as they have 236.1 yards a game through the air and 221.6 yards on the ground. The defense for the Bulldogs has also been pretty solid as they only allow 16.4 points a game. Opponents gain just 306.1 yards per game against this defense. They have a solid passing defense as they only allow 165.6 yards a game through the air and 140.5 yards on the ground.
Jake Fromm leads the Bulldog passing attack by throwing for 1,649 yards a game and throwing for 16 touchdowns thus far this year. Fromm has only thrown four interceptions on the season. Running back Elijah Holyfield leads the Georgia charge on the ground as he has racked up 559 yards and four touchdowns. The lone Georgia loss came back on the 13th of October as they fell to LSU 36-16 at Baton Rouge.
SEC East Title on the Line
This game is for the SEC East crown and both teams will come ready to battle. Georgia has the offensive upper hand and Kentucky has the defensive upper hand. Both teams have their struggles though. Kentucky struggles to throw the ball and Georgia struggles to stop the run at times. This is going to be a brawl and Kentucky is lucky that they will be hosting it at home. Georgia wants to win this game to have another shot at Alabama to try and knock them out of the playoffs. Georgia is favored by 9.5 points, but take Kentucky as they will keep it close.
