Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens Betting Preview: Ravens Should Run Around, Through, and Over Colts on MNF

The Colts are facing yet another stiff test to start the NFL season. They avoided total disaster with a win last week but they are not out of the woods yet.

Baltimore has to be feeling good today with Cincinnati and Cleveland losing on Sunday. They have a chance to take control of the AFC North tonight.

There was some very exciting action yesterday. Unfortunately I am not expecting a thrilling game this evening. This shapes up to be more of a black and blue sort of affair.

Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens Betting Outlook

The Colts got their first win of the season last week against the Dolphins. They are still in a tough spot though. Quarterback Carson Wentz might not be on the injured list this week so maybe he starts playing better from here forward. But that is far from a guarantee, especially against a solid Baltimore defense. Receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has emerged as the best receiver on the team, but not having T.Y. Hilton is limiting the offense. Former basketball player Mo Alie-Cox is developing into a legitimate weapon at tight end, which is something the Colts have not had since the Dallas Clark era.

Indy’s defense has slipped this season, and they are just 19th in points allowed coming in. This group needs to be more like a top-ten defense if they want to win. There is a negative discrepancy between their yards allowed and the points they have given up, so maybe they have been hurt by some bad luck. Either way they need to be better. Playing against Baltimore and Lamar Jackson is a challenge, but it does let you focus defensively.

Ravens Looking to Match Top Teams in AFC

Yesterday the Ravens saw the Bills and Chargers push their records to 4-1. With Kansas City struggling, they have a chance to pull even with those teams tonight. Is this a year to get back to the Super Bowl? It might be.

Jackson is the leading rusher on the team, but he has been able to elevate the passing game enough for it to be a threat. I still don’t like their options at receiver, but they are 13th in passing right now and that plays with the way they want to win games. I think we just have to accept that the offense is just not going to look pretty or predictable with the Ravens as long as Jackson is leading it.

Over the last two games the Ravens have only given up 24 points combined. In the first two they gave up 69. The most we can surmise from these results is that the defense is alright, not elite like some we have seen in the past. When they face a good offense, like the Chiefs, they are going to give up some yards and points. When they take on a lighter attack like Denver or Detroit, they can definitely hold them in check. Indianapolis definitely falls in the latter category so they should be good enough to win.

NFL Betting Trends to Consider for Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens

  • Indianapolis is is 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games in Week 5.
  • The Colts are 23-7-1 ATS in their last 31 games after allowing less than 250 total yards in their previous game.
  • The Colts are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games.
  • Baltimore is 6-0 ATS in their last six home games against a team with a losing road record.
  • The Ravens are 5-1 ATS in their last six games on FieldTurf.
  • The Ravens are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record.

Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens Best Bet

Under 46.5

This looks like a low-scoring game from what we have seen this season from both teams. Baltimore tends to match the pace of the opponent, and in this one I think we can expect a result similar to last week’s 23-7 win over the Broncos. I think we can get a few more points tonight but not too many.

Prop Watch: Latavius Murray Anytime TD Sore +140

The late waiver wire pickup is leading the team in TDs early on. Murray has scored in three of four games to start the season, and with so much attention paid to Jackson he is sometimes overlooked. He is powerful for those goal to go situations and has enough wiggle to break off the occasional big run. He should have a good day against the Colts.
