Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers Preview: Chargers Look to End Raiders’ Unbeaten Start on MNF

Both of these teams are trying to stay ahead of Kansas City in the AFC West. A tough task for sure but so far this division has looked like the best in the AFC.

The Raiders and have looked good but also a little bit lucky too. There is nothing wrong with that winning formula though.

Meanwhile, the Chargers are building something special as that other team in L.A. Tonight they get the spotlight.

Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers Betting Outlook

The Raiders are 3-0 including two overtime wins. Sure there is some luck involved there, but they also leading the league in yards per game and are averaging 30 points per game. Quarterback Derek Carr is off to a strong start, and they are able to spread the ball around to multiple targets. I am not expecting them to keep winning all of these close games but on offense, they can continue doing what they are doing. Carr might not be elite but he is much closer to that level than most think. He just doesn’t have the big-game moments some other quarterbacks do.

The defense has been mediocre, but that is to be expected with the players they have. However, that means the offense cannot take many weeks off. The Raiders are definitely going to be challenged by the Chargers' pass-heavy attack, and if they can’t find a way to get to the quarterback or create turnovers they likely won’t win. That is why they are easy underdogs on the road.

Chargers Have Great Chance to Impress on MNF

After a couple of close low-scoring games to start the season, the Chargers scored 30 points last week in beating the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Justin Herbert is leading the third-best passing attack in the NFL and showing no signs of a sophomore slump. The Chargers are definitely one of those teams where balance is not going to be too much of a concern. On any given play RB Austin Ekeler is as likely to catch the ball as carry it. Big receiver Mike Williams is off to a fast start with four touchdown catches already.

The Chargers' defensive numbers reflect the modern NFL perfectly. Even though they are dead last against the run they are 8th in points allowed, coming in at an even 20 points per game. They have been stingy against the pass thanks in part to rookie CB Asante Samuel Jr being such a quick study. Defensive end Joey Bosa and safety Derwin James need to stay healthy. They are expected to play tonight, but it would be nice if they were not on the injury report one week. They are the Chargers’ two best playmakers.

NFL Betting Trends to Consider for Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers

  • In their last six games as a road underdog, the Raiders have a 5-1 ATS record.
  • The Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team vs. a team with a winning record.
  • The Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games after allowing more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
  • In their last five games in October, the Chargers are 4-0-1 ATS.
  • The Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against fellow AFC teams.

Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers Best Bet

Over 51.5

We are going to see a fun offensive game that may come down to who has the ball last. Look for both teams to score in the 30s. The Raiders might dabble a little bit in the run, but the ball is going to be the air and the end zone a lot.

Prop Watch: Los Angeles Chargers Over 27.5 Points

Correlated with the game total over above I like the Chargers to definitely hold up their side of the bargain. I am not sure what happened to the offense in that game against Dallas, but Herbert is going to have a lot of success against the Raiders. They don’t need a defensive or special teams touchdown to get the over in this spot.
