Super Bowl Odds: Who Won the 2022 Super Bowl?

Super Bowl Odds: Who Won the 2022 Super Bowl?

We are now hours away from crowning this season’s NFL champion at the Super Bowl. On Super Bowl Sunday, the world will be watching as the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The NFL playoffs started with 14 teams vying for a chance to take home a title, and with only two teams left the Rams are favored to etch their name in the NFL history books in their home stadium.

The latest Super Bowl moneyline odds from BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook are listed below. In previous weeks, we listed the Super Bowl futures odds for each team listed, and with that in mind, we are listing only the moneyline odds here.

Who Won the 2022 Super Bowl?

The Rams rallied for a 23-20 win over the Bengals to win Super Bowl 56. The Rams did not cover the Super Bowl spread, but they achieved the most important result (for them at least, not for those who bet on the Rams to cover the spread).

Super Bowl Results and History for the Rams

  • 1980 (XIV): Pittsburgh Steelers 31, Los Angeles Rams 19
  • 2000 (XXXIV): St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee Titans
  • 2002 (XXXVI): New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 17
  • 2019 (LIII): New England Patriots 13, Los Angeles Rams 3

The Rams have played in four Super Bowls, winning one. To date, their only win came in Super Bowl XXXIV, when they defeated the Tennessee Titans. In their most recent appearance, they fell to the New England Patriots three years ago.

Super Bowl XXXIV Rams Tennessee Titans
The Rams’ lone Super Bowl win to date came in Super Bowl XXXIV, when they held off the Tennessee Titans 23-16. Mike Jones secured the win by tackling Titans receiver Kevin Dyson a yard short of the end zone on the final play, making one of the most memorably plays in Super Bowl history.

In that 1999 NFL season, the Rams had preseason odds of +15000 to win the Super Bowl. But Kurt Warner and “The Greatest Show on Turf” stunned the NFL on the way to the title. It remains one of the top underdog stories in recent sports history.

Warner became the first undrafted player to win NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP. He also became only the sixth player to win both awards in the same season. No player has done so since then.

Super Bowl Results & History for the Bengals

  • 1982 (XVI): San Francisco 49ers 26, Cincinnati Bengals 21
  • 1989 (XXIII): San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 16

Of the 14 teams that reached the NFL playoffs this season, only four opened their playoff journey without a Super Bowl title to their name: the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Cincinnati Bengals. They have been to the big game twice, however, losing both times to Montana and the 49ers.

Super Bowl XXIII Cincinnati Bengals San Francisco 49ers
1988 NFL MVP Boomer Esiason led the Bengals to their most recent Super Bowl appearance, a 20-16 loss to the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIII.

Of all of the NFL’s 32 teams, only the Detroit Lions (never), Cleveland Browns (never), New York Jets (1968 season), Minnesota Vikings (1976 season), and Miami Dolphins (1984 season) have gone longer without a Super Bowl appearance.

If the Bengals can both break their drought and win their first Super Bowl title, there will be 11 NFL teams without a Super Bowl win: the Lions, Browns, Vikings, Dolphins, Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, and Tennessee Titans.

Rams, Bengals Set for Super Bowl Showdown at SoFi

The Super Bowl 56 matchup is certainly an unexpected one, without a doubt. The Los Angeles Rams were pegged as a potential championship contender ahead of this season, according to early Super Bowl odds. But they were working against Super Bowl history.

Only once in the history of the big game has a team played for the title in their home stadium, and that was last season, when Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced and defeated the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. For it to not happen for 54 seasons but happen in consecutive seasons is no small feat.

While it is ultimately not a major surprise for the Rams to be a win away from their first title in over two years, their opponent is a major surprise.

The last time a team with such long preseason Super Bowl odds reached the big game was the 2001 season. That was the season Brady broke onto the scene with the New England Patriots and led them to a stunning Super Bowl upset of the Rams, who were then based in St. Louis.

As it is, this has been a great season in Cincinnati, but one more win will make franchise history. The Bengals will be vying to break their championship drought in their third Super Bowl appearance, their first in 33 years.

In Upset-Filled Season, Rams and Bengals Reach the Final Hurdle

Cincinnati Bengals (Preseason Super Bowl Odds: +8000)

Relative to preseason Super Bowl odds and expectations, the Bengals are the only real outlier in the bunch. Entering the 2021 NFL season, the Bengals were expected to be one of the NFL’s worst teams.

But there is often at least one surprise success story, and the Bengals are this season’s major surprise success. Led by two rising stars in QB Joe Burrow and rookie WR Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals won their first AFC North title since 2015 and are now poised for the biggest win of them all.

After eliminating the Raiders in the wild-card round, the Bengals went on the road and knocked out the Titans, the AFC’s top seed. To complete their run through the AFC, the Bengals overcame a 21-3 deficit to stun the Chiefs in overtime.

Los Angeles Rams (Preseason Super Bowl Odds: +1400)

After following up their most recent Super Bowl appearance with two underwhelming seasons, the Rams hit the trade market hard to enhance their championship hopes.

Last offseason, they traded for Matthew Stafford to upgrade from Jared Goff. Goff led the Rams to the NFC title in the 2018 season but had dealt with injuries and regression since. Then, during the season, they traded for former Super Bowl MVP linebacker Von Miller and three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

All three trades have been beneficial to their run to the big game.

Stafford outplayed Tom Brady–for the second time this season–in the Rams’ Divisional Round upset of the Bucs. OBJ has been Stafford’s second-favorite target thus far in the postseason, catching 19 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown. Against the 49ers in the NFC title game, he had nine catches for 113 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Miller has had some important contributions. In three games, he has 12 tackles and two sacks, and against the Bucs, he had a strip sack of Brady in the fourth quarter.
