Super Bowl Player Props: Best 2022 Player Prop Bets & Odds

Outside of betting on the outcome of the game, player props betting is arguably the most popular way to bet on the NFL. These days, most sportsbooks offer a wealth of player props on every game throughout the season, including the Super Bowl.

Of course, the Super Bowl is not just any game. It is the biggest game in football and one of the most famous events in all of sports. Millions upon millions of people around the world tune in every year. And millions upon millions of dollars, pounds, euros, and so on are wagered on the big game.

So, Super Bowl player props contain even more variety than the prop bets that are on offer during the rest of the NFL season.

In fact, the Super Bowl is the very reason why prop betting exists as it does in the present.

Best Super Bowl Player Prop Bets (as of Sunday, February 13, 2022)

As is the case every year, there are dozens upon dozens of Super Bowl player props available to choose from this year. But what prop picks stand out the most for the Super Bowl 56 matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals?

Here is our take on the best Super Bowl player prop bets for Sunday’s showdown at SoFi Stadium.

Three 2022 Super Bowl Player Props to Consider

Offense: Cooper Kupp OVER 103.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Kupp has had one of the best seasons by a wide receiver in NFL history. In the regular season, he fell just short of the single-season records for receptions and receiving yards. And after winning the receiving “Triple Crown” in the regular season, he could do the same in the postseason. In three playoff games, he has 25 catches, 386 yards, and four touchdowns.

Kupp had 11 100-yard games in the regular season and has two more in the playoffs, and he has amassed at least 105 yards in all of them. Stafford will be targeting him early and often, and after going for 183 yards against the Bucs and 142 against the 49ers, this number is well within his reach.

Defense: Jalen Ramsey OVER 3.5 Tackles (-140)

Ramsey had only one tackle in the NFC Championship Game win against San Francisco, but he had four tackles in the previous two playoff wins against the Cardinals and Bucs. Also, in 16 regular season games this season, Ramsey recorded four or more tackles ten times.

Special Teams: Matt Gay OVER 7.5 Points (-120)

McPherson has made a lot of headlines for his heroics as a rookie, but Gay has come up big for the Rams as well. And the odds are favorable that he will hit the over on his points total. In fact, he has done so in 17 of 20 games this season (14 of 17 in the regular season plus all three playoff games).

Types of Super Bowl Player Props

If you bet on the NFL, you will be familiar with player props even if you don’t bet on them regularly.

When it comes to Super Bowl player props, you will find the same bets that you see throughout the NFL season. You will also see some options that are only offered on special occasions like the Super Bowl.

Typically, offshore sportsbooks will offer some quirkier or more varied options than regulated sportsbooks do. But as legal sports betting expands across the United States, the gap is certainly closing between what is offered at offshore books and what is offered at regulated books like BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook.

What player prop betting options will you find when you bet on the upcoming Super Bowl matchup? Most of Super Bowl player prop bets that you see are either over/under betting or yes/no betting.

Here’s a look at some of the Super Bowl player prop bets available at BetMGM. For some of the options listed below, only the most notable options are mentioned.

All odds are as of Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Evan McPherson Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl player props
Will rookie kicker and playoff hero Evan McPherson come up big for the Bengals again when they meet the Rams in Super Bowl LVI?

Those are just some of the Super Bowl player props that you will have at your disposal. You can also expect a few more frivolous options to pop up as well.

NBA games always take place on Super Bowl Sunday, though any games are scheduled to avoid conflict with the day’s biggest event. This year, two games are scheduled for February 13–the Boston Celtics will host the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves–so some crossover combination props could be on the board.

While most Super Bowl player prop bets are fairly self-explanatory, the wealth of available options can be pretty overwhelming whether you are a new bettor or an experienced bettor.

It is important to find the betting approach that works best for you. Some people prefer to spread their funds across several options. Others would much rather zero in on one or two options. Different approaches work for different people.

Whether you are invested in a number of Super Bowl player props or just one option, it is very wise to do your research.

Knowing matchup information, noteworthy team and individual statistics on both sides, the weather forecast, and results from any head-to-head matchup that occurred during the season can help you make the most informed decisions. Thanks to the vast internet, all of this information and so much more is readily available with a few handy clicks.

Now, if you are not a regular bettor or much of a football or sports fan and are just choosing players that sound familiar, then that advice does not have to apply to you. You are free to do as you please when research is not going to have any bearing on the choice you make.

History of Super Bowl Player Props

Refrigerator Perry Super Bowl XX Super Bowl player props
Super Bowl player props originated with Chicago Bears defensive tackle/occasional fullback William “Refrigerator” Perry.

In the 1985 NFL season, the Chicago Bears dominated the league, as a devastating defense led the way to an almost-perfect campaign. The “Monsters of the Midway” helped the Bears win their first 12 games and compile a 15-1 record in the regular season.

Their dominance continued on into the postseason. In their first two playoff games, they outscored their opposition 91-20 to advance to Super Bowl XX. With a rout of the New England Patriots to win the title in New Orleans, the Bears wrapped up one of the greatest seasons in NFL history.

Among the names on that dominant defense were Hall of Famers Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, and Mike Singletary, and future NFL head coaches Singletary, Leslie Frazier, and Ron Rivera. Also, future Titans and Rams head coach Jeff Fisher was on injured reserve that season.

“The Fridge” Opens the Door for Super Bowl Player Prop Betting

Another notable name was rookie defensive tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry, the 22nd overall pick in the 1985 NFL Draft out of Clemson. During the season, Perry made an instant impact defensively, tallying 31 tackles and recording five sacks. But he also weas used as a fullback throughout the season, and he scored two touchdowns in five carries.

Because of Perry’s versatility and the fact that the Bears were such a heavy favorite in Super Bowl XX–they were favored by 10 over the Patriots, who were the fifth seed in the AFC–Las Vegas oddsmakers decided to offer bets on if “The Fridge” would score a touchdown. According to sportsintel.com, it was Caesars Palace who offered +2000 odds on if Perry would hit paydirt.

Perry did in fact score the Bears’ final touchdown of the game, reaching the end zone from a yard out to make it 44-3 in the third quarter. The Bears went on to win 46-10 and claim their first and only Super Bowl title to date.

While that was the high point for the Bears in the Super Bowl era, it was just the beginning for Super Bowl player props and prop betting in general.

Now, prop betting garners as much attention week in, week out as spread, total, and moneyline betting do. It is safe to say that the money that Caesars Palace lost on that initial wager has been recouped more than a few times over in the three and a half decades since.
