Euro 2020 Preview and Best Bets: Will There Be Any Drama in Groups B and C?

Euro 2020 Preview and Best Bets: Will There Be Any Drama in Groups B and C?

Over the next few days, the group stage of Euro 2020 will reach its conclusion. There was little in the way of serious drama as Group A wrapped up yesterday, as Italy saw off Wales 1-0 to finish a perfect run through the group, with Wales going through in second. In the other match, Switzerland downed Turkey 3-1 and will likely be in the draw for the round of 16 after finishing up group play with four points.

With 12 spots in the round of 16 yet to be decided, some drama should be expected in the ten remaining group stage matches.

Today’s slate features a quartet of matches, as Group B and Group C finish up. In Group B, Belgium and Finland meet in Saint Petersburg, while Denmark and Russia face off in Copenhagen. Belgium’s two wins from two matches have them sitting pretty ahead of their match, but beyond them, it’s still all to play for between Denmark, Finland, and Russia.

Let’s take a look at today’s Euro 2020 schedule and the best bets for today’s four matches.

Euro 2020 Best Bets – June 21

Ukraine vs Austria

If you’re looking for drama, this match is expected to not be the source of any. Both teams have three points and a goal difference of zero, with Ukraine ahead of Austria in second by virtue of having scored one goal more.

Based on how things are poised to shake out elsewhere, four points should be enough for Austria to advance to the round of 16, and it would serve neither team well to unnecessarily risk their spot in the knockouts.

Ukraine vs Austria Best Bets

Ukraine vs Austria draw (+100): There’s always a chance that someone will opt to not follow the script, and as a lover of sporting chaos, that would certainly spice up what should not be a thriller.

But the safe bet is on the draw, and while there is no value in backing the under alone, there is in taking the WDW and total combo of draw and under 2.5. For an extra sprinkling of value, backing both the 0-0 (+320) and 1-1 (+290) at equal amounts will guarantee a profit if either one hits.

North Macedonia vs Netherlands

North Macedonia has put in a good shift in their two Euro 2020 matches but has nothing to show for their efforts. Barring an unlikely upset, their maiden Euros experience will end today without a point.

This is a good opportunity for the Netherlands to flex their muscles a bit with top spot in Group C already secured. They have five goals in two games, but they could and should have more. With Memphis Depay’s move to Barcelona all settled, we may see his best today.

North Macedonia vs Netherlands Best Bets

Goran Pandev to score (+360): Unless he makes a U-turn, this will be Pandev’s last appearance for his country. Along with being captain, he is North Macedonia’s all-time leader in goals (38) and appearances (121). It would be fitting for him to sign off on his decorated international career with a goal. He scored in their Euro 2020 opener against Austria and should be one of their biggest threats against the Netherlands.

Netherlands team total over 2.5 (-104): There isn’t any value in taking the overall over 2.5, and over 3.5 is risky in the event there is a 3-0. Provided the Netherlands put in the kind of performance that they should in this one, three goals is a good target. As a result, backing them to hit 2.5 on their own is a good value option.

Finland vs Belgium

There’s a possibility that Finland could still end up advancing to the round of 16 even if they lose today. But it will require a lot of good fortune going their way. So, somehow, some way, they are going to have to muster up a result against one of the tournament favorites to lessen the likelihood of needing said good fortune.

With Belgium needing their own positive result in order to top Group B, don’t expect them to relax. As with the Netherlands, this is an opportunity to flex their muscles against inferior opposition before the knockouts.

Finland vs Belgium Best Bets

Belgium to win the first half (-135): The sooner Belgium get this one done and dusted, the better. They will not want to let things linger on into the second half, both for the sake of not wanting to let Finland hang around too long and wanting to let some of their stars have an early rest. Look for them to come out with intent.

Russia vs Denmark

After losing their first two Euro 2020 matches, Denmark needs a win and likely some help in order to advance. While it would be great to see that somehow occur so that they have a chance to make a deep run, there’s also no doubting the emotional toll this last week-plus will have taken on the team. So whether or not they bow out today, they deserve nothing but kudos for continuing.

When it comes to the business at hand, Russia will finish second in the group as long as they better whatever result Finland gets against Belgium. That would land them a round of 16 matchup against Wales, which would be a favorable draw all things considered.

Russia vs Denmark Best Bets

Artem Dzyuba to score (+230): Dzyuba hasn’t found the back of the net yet, so he is rather due to. He averaged 0.65 goals per game for Zenit Saint Petersburg this past season, scoring 22 goals in 34 matches. Also, he has 29 goals in now 54 appearances for Russia. So, purely based on percentages, he is unlikely to go much longer without scoring. At +230, this one is well worth backing.
