They also has a losing streak of 24 straight games during the 1981/82 and 1982/83 seasons.

In the 2003 draft, they selected LeBron James with the number 1 overall pick and they made their first NBA Finals appearance in 2007. After James left and went to Miami, the Cavs finished last in the Eastern Conference and suffered the longest losing streak in a single season in the NBA. It is also the second longest of all time.

The Cavs won the number 1 pick in the draft in three of the four seasons between 2010 and 2014.

They selected Kyrie Irving in 2011 from Duke University, Anthony Bennett from University of Nevada in 2013 and Andrew Wiggins from the University of Kansas in 2014.

On the back of these draft picks, LeBron James returned home to Cleveland and led his team to four consecutive NBA Finals and in 2016, the franchise won their first NBA Championship.

It was the first time in NBA history that a team had come back from a 3-1 deficit in the series to win. They did it against the Golden State Warriors.

It was the first major sports title to be won in Cleveland since 1964.

The Cavs only other number 1 draft picks have been Austin Carr from the University of Notre Dame in 1971 and Brad Daugherty from the University of North Carolina in 1986.

Other names considered for the team in the infancy of the franchise included ‘The Jays’, ‘The Foresters’ and ‘The Presidents’.

LeBron James leads the all-time record for the Cavs in minutes played, field goals, free throws, assists, steals, and points.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had two coaches win the Coach of the Year award. Bill Fitch in 1976 and Mike Brown in 2009.

They have had three mascots in their history including Whammer who was a Polar Bear, Moondog who was a dog and Sir C.C who is a Swashbuckler Cavalier.

The Cavs home court has hosted two NBA All-Star games. One in the 35th Anniversary of the league in 1981 and another in the 50th year anniversary in 1997.

The Cavs were once owned by famous entrepreneur, lawyer and author Nick Mileti in their early years. Mileti also owned Cleveland’s baseball team, the Cleveland Indians and the city’s World Hockey Association franchise.
