Midweek is often a slow time for racing. This week however, “Parx Madness” means plenty of stakes action for horseplayers before weekend racing.
Santa Anita will hold 6 stakes on Saturday. Among the stakes will be the “Big Cap” and the San Felipe which offers 50 Derby points to the winner.
The Gotham Stakes from Aqueduct will end the Saturday Card. The race is one of four Kentucky Derby prep races to be run across the country on Saturday.
Nine of the 13 races from Gulfstream Park on Saturday will be stakes races. Perhaps none more fascinating to racing fans than the Fountain of Youth.
Two 6.5 furlong stakes races highlight the Friday card at Turf Paradise. The Cactus Wren & Cactus Flower kickoff the thoroughbred portion of the card.
Fair Grounds will run a rare Tuesday card on March 1st. The marquee race will be the Mardi Gras stakes and will go off as race 8 on the turf.
This weekend the biggest races end with massive upsets. The Saudi Cup was won by a 99-1 shot. The Rebel gave a 74-1 horse a spot in the Kentucky Derby.
Aqueduct will host just one stakes race on Saturday. The Stymie Stakes will be run at 1 mile on dirt and will feature Green Light Go as a heavy favorite.
The morning line favorite for the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park won’t be eligible for Kentucky Derby Points. Newgrange is trained by Bob Baffert.
Letruska is arguably the most talented female in training right now. Saturday she is heavily favored in the Royal Delta at Gulfstream Park.
